My First Trip to Pizza Cart

Cedar City, Utah is not exactly the place you'd expect to find a vibrant food community, but I think it's safe to say that everyone who spends time in Cedar City has heard of the infamous Pizza Cart. What started out as physical wood-fire pizza cart that operated much like a food truck has now become one of the most frequently visited restaurants in town.

This is not the only wood-fire pizza place in town. The town is reportedly split between "Centro" and "Pizza Cart" people. I chose to explore Pizza Cart this week because it is less expensive ($), still classy and familiar environment to fellow college students. [As opposed to the fine dining ($$$) experience of Centro]

Pizza Cart is not just a pizza place. They sell salads, dessert pizzas and their most recent addition: gelato. Cindy Murray, owner of Pizza Cart recently purchased equipment to make this Italian ice cream directly from Italy. Each day they make fresh gelato and each week they have new flavors; but it doesn't stop there. Guaranteed everyday they have a flavor of hand-made sorbet. Sorbet is useful for those gluten-free/vegan people out there. The gelato is gluten-free as well unless they have a mix-in like cookie chunks or brownies.

This was my first time trying Gelato. I got the Toasted Almond flavor (pictured above) which I HIGHLY recommend. Even if you aren't a "nut person," there isn't a single chunk of nuts in this scoop of heaven.

My amazingly supportive friend Sierra came with me because of the allergen friendly food that Pizza Cart has! Sierra has many, many food allergies including (but not limited to) dairy, eggs and gluten. As I already said, their sorbet is gluten free and vegan, so she was able to have the sorbet.

Pizza Cart also has a pizza called The Vegan. This pizza vegan (obviously) on a gluten-free crust so it's perfect for people like Sierra (and perfect for people with friends with food allergies because it's almost impossible to find a place Sierra and I can eat out at {Thanks Pizza Cart})

I got the Chicken Bacon Ranch Pizza: ranch, mozzarella, chicken, tomatoes, smoked bacon, and a drizzle of BBQ sauce. I'm a sucker for any pizza with chicken on it to begin with, but I would recommend this pizza to anyone. I can only think of the word "savory" to describe it. The wood-fired crust mixed with the smoked bacon and BBQ sauce is the perfect combination.

Are you a Pizza Cart or a Centro person? I'm planning on going back so leave a comment with your favorite order at these Cedar City hot-spots.

Until next time,

Katrina
