Quench Your Thirst

Writer's picture: Katrina ChristensenKatrina Christensen

I grew up in Utah County where everyone is a Swig or a Sodalicious person. Here in Cedar City where the brand names Swig and Sodalicious are foreign terms, below is a list of places in Cedar City to find a delicious drink!

I'm aware that stores that solely sell soda and treats are a rare find outside of Utah. I have a friend who is from Alaska and last weekend I took her to the St. George Swig on our way out of town. When she took a sip of her first soda with mix-ins I think her heart fluttered. She said "I'm going to have to come to St. George more often just to get this drink!" She was surprised when I told her that there are several places here in Cedar City where you can get equally delicious drinks.

The best part about the drink shops here in Cedar is that most of them are local and are therefore less expensive and higher quality than busy franchises. I've compiled a list of the best places in Cedar City to get a delicious drink (which includes the town favorite coffee and tea places) that might push you out of your comfort zone; but I dare say you'll keep coming back for more.

Slurps Up

This drink shop is probably the most similar to Swig or Sodalicious stores. You can ask for a personalized drink with different mix-ins or pick one of their signature drinks from the menu. Don't forget to grab one of their treats.

Soda Run

Again, very similar to Swig or Sodalicious. Although unrelated to soda I've heard their popcorn is to die for.

21eleven

If you are looking for gourmet coffee the barista's at 21eleven are the best in town; they can make it just the way you like. They recently changed to an even higher quality of ingredients so if you haven't gone lately it deserves a second visit! (Don't forget they're not just a coffee house; they have great Italian sodas and smoothies)

The Grind

Started by the same people as 21eleven, The Grind is a classic hang-out place in Cedar City with tons of shops around, a bookstore next door and local music for entertainment.

Pastry Pub

If you're looking for more of a classic local place to get drinks Pastry Pub has several coffee and tea options. (pictured below)

Park Place

Two words: Italian soda, Italian soda, Italian soda. Every time I crave an Italian soda I find myself at Park Place.

The French Spot

I think the best part of the last three options is that they are all within 20 feet of each other. There are rumors that The French Spot is expanding their venue as well so there will be more opportunities to taste their food, but in the meantime this is a great local drive-thru coffee place.

Outtakes/Purple Oasis

Wonderful on-campus places to get a refreshing smoothie.

Tae's Tea

I'm going to let their name and this photo below explain their services for you:

Bulloch Drug

Bulloch claims to make you "step back in time" with their soda fountain experience. You can get an Ironport at Bulloch which is the Western version of a sarsaparilla. Since Bulloch is usually busy during tourist season if you're craving the experience Cedar City Drug store also has a soda fountain.

Boba Tea & Smoothie JF Gift Shop

Unless you've had Boba tea before I don't think you could understand the texture. I am definitely a texture eater and I hesitated trying it for the first time. Once you get used to the large straw with tapioca pearl surprises I think you'll come back for more.

Franchises

I also had to list my favorite franchises here in Cedar City that I go to to get a fun drink.

-Maverick (I might have spent my freshmen year going to Maverick daily for a 32 oz drink. It's okay Really.)

-Tropical Smoothie

-Starbucks

-Taco Bell Skittles Slushie

-Chic-fil-A Lemonade (I have seen them make it countless times. They do not lie about the freshness of this stuff).

-Jack-in-the-box: Jack's Summer Floats
