Chocolate is to women what duct tape is to men. It fixes everything. And we all know that the way to a man's heart is his stomach.
This Valentine's Day, treat your special someone with a favorite local treat listed below. More specifically, the list below is comprised of local places that provide unique treats for the holiday.
I say "special someone" because there is a large population of single college students and adults. Sometimes, it's those friends and family members that make this day one to remember.
So far, the only person to give me a Valentine this year is my Grandma. And that's okay with me because I know I can find something she'll love right here in town.
1. Fudge from Boomers, Brick House, & the SUU Convenience Store
Since I was eight years old, my Grandma has brought me down from Utah county each and every summer to visit a few plays. No matter what time of year it was or how many times she'd been down here that year, you could count on a mandatory trip to Boomer's Bloomers & The Candy Factory. Milk Chocolate Nut Fudge was always purchase.

Over the last fifteen years, I have tried my fair share of free samples. I can tell you with absolute certainty that their Milk Chocolate Nut and Rocky Road Fudge are to die for. The best part about this fudge is that it's not only sold one place. The SUU Convenience store across from the Bookstore in the Student Center offers a small selection of fudge from downtown.
Brick House Cafe also not only gives out a free sample with every meal but sells it there as well. So if you don't have Valentine's day plans, stop by the convenience store for a quick delicious treat or make a reservation at Brick House and pick up some fudge on your way out. I know I'll be picking up some for my grandma.
2. Simply Delicious Confections Award Winning Chocolates & More

The hard part about this business is that there is no storefront. This business is run primarily through Facebook ordering. With a little extra time and effort, you can get a handmade gift for well under $12. For instance, half a dozen chocolate covered strawberries are only $8 and you can get half a dozen truffles for under $6. This offers each college student a well-priced and delicious gift for their "special someone."
3. Gelato Cakes from Pizza Cart in partnership with Simply Delicious Confections

These cakes are only offered during the holidays. Although the time to order them has passed, this can be placed at the top of the list for next year. The word "gelato" is not often used in Utah among college students because once we hear it we think the words "too expensive." The truth is, gelato is delicious and always worth it (not exactly the thoughtful argument you were expecting huh?).
I would say ordering one of these cakes depends on your significant other and their dessert preferences. But if the person you're thinking of is a gelato fan, pick up the phone and get on the waiting list for next year.
4. Palette Creamery

Brian Passey from The Spectrum said "One visit simply wasn’t enough to thoroughly review Palette Creamery in Cedar City. At least that’s what I told myself when I went back for a second and third visit. I needed to try more flavors for a better review. Really I just wanted an excuse to eat more ice cream."
Each of their flavors are made on location. Don't get scared off by the names of their ice cream such as Chocolate Lavender Salted Caramel or White Chocolate Boysenberry Champagne. The flavors are unique, and that's what makes this place the perfect Valentine's Day treat.
5. Doughnutsville

A simple treat. Rated more than 4 stars across the board, Doughnutsville is the place to find unique, flavorful doughnuts in town. Their doughnuts are less than $0.80 each.
As you can see, they have plenty of Valentine's-themed doughnuts in stock. They're made fresh daily and open at 5 AM. The only problem is they close at 2 PM; so plan this as a breakfast or brunch surprise for your special someone!
Let me know in the comments if you've found other inexpensive, unique, and local treats around town! I'm going to need some new ideas for my Galentine's Bachelor night tomorrow...you know the drill.
Until next time,
Katrina
